FILMMAKER + EDUCATOR

Drawing from her experiences working in the art, design, and film industries, Kelly Diaz has taught a wide range of subject matter—from basic collage to acrylic painting, from Adobe Photoshop to oxyacetylene welding, from set design to stop motion animation—to all sorts of students ranging in age from five years old to sixty-five.
No matter the subject or type of pupil, Kelly thrives on fostering new growth and creative energy within all her students, and has always loved to share the techniques and skills that she has garnered through her own experiences as a filmmaker and working artist.
Kelly has designed and assisted on short films, features, commercials, and music videos – and always looks forward to telling fresh, ambitious stories, now as a director and cinematographer. ‘Beach Body,’ the first short Kelly Diaz wrote and directed, was featured in 14 film festivals, including international and Oscar-qualifiers, and received awards including Best Short, Best Comedy, Best Actress, and the Audience Choice Award.
Kelly recently completed her MFA in Cinematography at UCLA, where she was awarded the 2020 MPAA Award for Directing. She lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico and teaches film at Central New Mexico Community College.
